TWO fleets – Sainsbury’s and Scottish Water – have both announced major telematics deals which cover a total of more than 2,000 vehicles.

The supermarket giant has chosen Cybit’s Fleetstar-Online system for 400 home delivery vehicles and the utility group has opted for AssetCo’s online telematics system and Smartnav’s satellite navigation.

The three-year Sainsbury’s deal will allow the company to help drivers navigate to destinations and track progress along the way.

Scottish Water’s five-year deal aims to achieve ‘significant savings’ in vehicle fleet operational costs as well as improve driver safety and security.

Sainsbury’s delivery operations manager Jason Soar said: ‘Operational efficiencies in our home delivery fleet are critical to the success of our Sainsbury’s to You venture.’

And Graeme Hill, head of logistics at Scottish Water, said: ‘We believe the information this technology delivers will enable us to make cost-effective and informed decisions.’
