Tyres: Put the seal on punctures

FLEETS are set to benefit from a new tyre sealant which, its producers claim, could help slash puncture-related accident rates.

Protex Tyre Sealant is a puncture protection system which can be installed into any pneumatic tyre without causing wheel imbalance.

Once installed, it will permanently repair punctures as they occur from penetrating objects up to 6mm in the inner tread area of the tyre and 15mm in slow moving plant vehicles, with minimal loss of pressure.

Motability, the UK’s largest fleet, has accredited the new sealant.

A Protex spokesman said: ‘There have been a number of puncture repair products over the last 30 years.

‘However, the tyre sealants available for on-road, high-speed vehicles have only been a post remedy, to temporarily repair the puncture as a get-you-home solution, not as a permanent repair.’
