THE AA has introduced a new uniform for its staff to make them more visible at the roadside.

It says the specially designed gear will ensure better visibility of its 3,500 patrols to passing motorists in the dark and poor light.

AA Road Services director Kerry Richardson said: 'More than 250 people are killed or injured on the UK's motorway hard shoulders every year alone.

'This major redesign of the AA patrol's uniform, the fifth in the organisation's 99-year history, is also a radical shift away from the traditional military look to a design that more resembles Formula 1 pit-lane gear.'
