A MAINTENANCE contractor has switched its light commercial fleet from Ford to Toyota because it believes the Japanese firm has a better reliability record.

County Contractors, which undertakes refurbishment, shopfitting and maintenance in the south and south-west is to take on 24 280 short-wheelbase and 300 long-wheelbase Hiaces and three Corollas to replace its Transit-dominated fleet.

The vehicles are being contract hired through local leasing firm Zone on a three-year 75,000-mile contract.

Peter Mercer, County Contractors' business development manager, said: 'Of all the vehicles we looked at, the Hiaces were the most rugged – and reliability is a top factor.'
