THE shortage of late-plate vans is so acute that secondhand prices are almost rivalling those of discounted new vans, according to George Alexander, chief editor, commercial vehicles, at Glass's.

He said: 'Further down the scale of age and condition, there is an abundance of vans to choose from and only just sufficient takers to keep the balance in check.'

Meanwhile, Glass's has seen values of the Vauxhall Astra Envoy and Combo knocked down due to the high volume of models on the market, while the Ford Transit Connect is benefiting from 'a well-managed programme that has provided a platform from which to strengthen its residual value.'
