FLEET News Award winner Paul Concannon has helped launch a new company and he revealed long-term plans to move into fleet consultancy.

Concannon scooped the Fleet Manager of the Year award (101-400 vehicles), sponsored by BMW Corporate Sales, in his role as fleet manager at environmental support services group Fountains.

He has now started his own specialist cleaning company – we clean, where he is director.

He said: 'I live in the west Midlands and was travelling to Banbury every day to the Fountains office, which was one and a half hours each way. This is one of the key reasons I looked for other opportunities.'

In his new role as director of we clean, Concannon will spend fewer hours working on the fleet side than at Fountains. His new role involves finance, planning, operations and managing the five-vehicle fleet.

Concannon said: 'The new role was something I could not turn down as I am previously from the cleaning industry. But I don't spend as much time in fleet management now I am director.'

However, Concannon recently ordered two 1.9 DTi short wheelbase Vivaro vans with specialist racking, full ply-lining and tow bars to transport stock and materials for the groups' current fleet.

He said: 'From my experience as a fleet manager, I know how reliable the Vauxhall product is and that its support and back-up cannot be beaten.'

Concannon is planning to remain in the fleet industry once his new venture is up and running.

He said: 'Because of the Fleet News Award and my experience in fleet management, once my business is firmly established I want to look at moving into fleet consultancy work, but this won't be for another 12 months.'
