MANY of our readers were feeling very smug when they spotted the April fool story on the front of the April 1 issue.

The story, titled 'Heard the one about the dead goat and a packet of fish?' was obviously a hilarious fools' day prank, and lots of readers e-mailed us to point out they hadn't been caught out.

Except that they had been fooled – it wasn't a prank at all, but a real story born out of research carried out by Fleet News into what fleet drivers have left in cars they have returned. A dead goat, a chainsaw and used nappies were indeed found in the back of end-of-lease vehicles.

So who's the fool now?
