THE Polo has gone polar thanks to an ice sculpture heralding the latest special edition model.

The Polo Twist comes with free air conditioning and to promote the offer, Volkswagen commissioned a Polo with the coolest look possible, made of ice.

The full-size sculpture was parked outside the Saatchi Art Gallery, South Bank, London and was made from 9.5 tonnes of ice imported from Canada by a company which specialises in ice carving.

It took about 350 hours to create, was hand-carved by three sculptors in a freezer at minus 10 degrees Celsius and was transported in 100 individually wrapped sections by 'freezer freight'.

Prices start at £9,185 on-the-road for the 1.2-litre three-door model with air conditioning, 14-inch alloy wheels and the choice of metallic or pearl effect paint as standard.
