THE competition has been hotting up in the 2004 Kwik-Fit Fleet National Karting Challenge in association with Fleet News, with circuit records smashed during a titanic battle in the fourth heat.

The lead changed hands several times throughout the two-hour endurance race at the Daytona Karting circuit at Trafford Park, Manchester, with Lex Vehicle Leasing 'A' leading across the line from GE Capital Fleet Services, Lex Vehicle Leasing 'B', and Lloyds TSB autolease.

Such was the intensity of racing that the winners completed 201 laps – the first time the 200-lap barrier had been broken at the circuit in this form of racing.

They finished almost 30 seconds ahead of the second-placed team.

Ten teams have now qualified for the grand final – defending champions Venson Public Sector, LeasePlan, Alphabet, Hitachi Capital, Carillion Fleet Services, Lloyds TSB autolease, Interleasing, DaimlerChrysler Services Fleet Management, Bank of Scotland and Lex Vehicle Leasing.

The final is on June 20 at the Daytona circuit, Milton Keynes.
