Vauxhall Astra

The most important fleet car of the year hits the streets this month and early looks suggest it's a strong proposition.

It gets some very capable diesels for the first time and, unlike the outgoing version, is not bland. Inside, materials are of high quality, and it's a much better drive as well.

Can the Astra take the fight to the two heavyweights, the volume leading Ford Focus and quality leading Volkswagen Golf? We think so.

Peugeot 407

The second most important fleet car of the year also hits the streets in May. The 407 demands attention with its large, slashed lights and gaping grille. Some think it looks like a Ferrari, others like a drowning fish. You decide. At launch, the 2.0 HDi will be the model to go for, but next year, it gets the 2.7-litre V6 diesel that has got a great reception in the Jaguar S-type, which could be special.
