SALES of speed camera detectors have rocketed during the past year.

A recent survey has shown a 122% increase in the number of detectors sold this year, with 65% of respondents believing their speeding fine was unjustified.

A spokesman at Car Parts Direct, which completed the survey, said: 'A radar detector is now a must have item for any motorist who rely on their vehicles for an income. It is not just a fine and driving licence saver, it keeps motoring insurance premiums down too.'

The survey also showed that 82% of drivers thought they were driving safely at the time of their conviction.

Drivers with three points on their licences are three times more likely to buy a radar detector than a motorist with no points according to the survey and more than 70% of those polled with six points said they had bought a radar detector or would consider buying one.
