RAC Foundation release 'tailgating' survey

The survey says up to 70 per cent of drivers ‘tailgate’ or drove too close to the vehicle in front motorways. Chevrons do help to remind drivers about the 'two second' rule, but driver's memories are clearly nearly as short as the space between them and the vehicle in front.

Researchers think more chevrons painted on motorways and possibly cameras would help.
