BMW has announced details of the third petrol engine to join the 1-series line-up which will arrive in the UK later this year.

The 118i will use a 129bhp petrol engine producing 133lb-ft of torque and records the 0-62mph dash in 9.4 seconds. The Valvetronic engine offers fuel consumption of 38.7mpg on the combined cycle, and standard specification will include run-flat tyres, six airbags, a CD player, dynamic stability control, corner brake control and traction control.

Prices are yet to be finalised, but the entry level car is likely to be priced at £17,300 on-the-road.

An aerodynamic pack (pictured) has been added to the accessories list in the 1-series range, featuring a new front spoiler, rear valance and additional spoiler at the top of the tailgate. Priced at £895 (ex-fitting) the package is offered with four different 18-inch alloy wheel styles priced from £1,895. Previously the largest size offered on the 1-series was 17 inches.
