    smart forfour

SMART moves from niche two-seaters to the supermini sector with 40% of the forfour’s components shared with the new Mitsubishi Colt and a choice of three petrol engines or a common rail diesel. Two-tone styling stands out and the interior styling is also different from the mainstream with bright colour options and cushions. Likely to be a hit with user-choosers and fleets whose vehicles enjoy a high profile.

    BMW 535d

JAGUAR is making a song and dance about twin-turbos on its new V6 diesel engine in the S-type with 204bhp, but when BMW joins the twin turbo brigade later this year it promises 272bhp, more than 400lb-ft of torque, but sensible fuel consumption. Using the excellent 3.0-litre six-cylinder second-generation common rail diesel, the 535d will be a true high-performance machine.
