LAND Rover has competitively pitched its new Range Rover Sport right in the middle of SUV heartland, with prices starting more than £10,000 below the full-size Range Rover.

The line-up starts at £34,995 on-the-road for the 2.7-litre TDV6 S, which comes with adaptive air suspension and the firm’s new Terrain Response system as standard. Also included is climate control, automatic gearbox, 17 inch alloy wheels and adaptive cruise control.

BMW’s popular X5 3.0d starts at £35,825, while the Volvo XC90 2.4 D5 enters at £30,735.

Petrol engines start at £44,995 OTR for the 4.4 V8 SE with the top of the range challenger for the Porsche Cayenne, the 400bhp 4.2 V8 Supercharged First Edition, costing £58,995.
