VAUXHALL will launch its fastest-ever production model in March – the 6.0-litre Monaro VXR.

Borrowing the V8 engine from the latest Corvette C6, the new Monaro VXR develops 398bhp and 391lb-ft and is expected to have a top speed in excess of 180mph – beating the previous record of the Lotus Carlton in 1990.

The car will look similar to the current VXR version of the Monaro, with the exception of ‘nostril’ vents on the bonnet, four exhaust pipes, new 10-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels and grooved brake discs. The first cars will reach customers in March with an expected price tag of £37,000.
