JEEP’S four-wheel drive commercial vehicle, the Cherokee Pioneer, has been given a new engine to improve towing and load carrying ability.

The Cherokee Pioneer VGT gets the same Euro IV 2.8-litre diesel engine in the Cherokee, which increases towing capacity from 2,68kg to 3,360kg and the payload by 21kg to 380kg, thanks to an increase in torque from 251lb-ft to 295lb-ft.

Simon Elliot, managing director, Chrysler Group UK, said: ‘The Cherokee Pioneer is aimed at customers who need a commercial vehicle that is able to carry and tow a significant load.’

Prices start at £17,720 on-the-road, excluding VAT.
