    Renault Laguna

RENAULT freely admits that it has had reliability issues with the Laguna, but reckons the facelifted model will banish them for good. While it gets a new, less distinctive nose, Renault has uppeda\ the quality of the interior. It features a more upmarket dash panel, a new centre console, higher-grade trim material and dual-zone air conditioning. The Laguna also has a new line-up of engines, providing greater power.

    Honda CR-V i-CDTi

HONDA’S diesel CR-V not only scuppers the anti-SUV brigade’s arguments from every angle but, by the end of this year, is likely to have helped the CR-V become the best-selling SUV in the UK. The CR-V diesel uses the excellent 140bhp 2.2-litre common rail diesel engine used in the Accord, giving class-leading fuel consumption with 42.2mpg on the combined cycle. The CR-V also scores high for pedestrian safety.
