THE fleet industry is glamorous enough as it is for 364 days of the year, but next Wednesday night it will have an even more lustrous sheen than usual.

Stars including Robbie Williams, Tina Turner, Rod Stewart, Kylie Minogue, Freddie Mercury (they will in fact be talented impersonators) Huw Edwards and comedian Jimmy Carr will be at London’s Park Lane for the biggest event of the year: the Fleet News Awards.

And this year’s Awards will be the biggest in its history – 1,350 people will assemble at the Grosvenor House Hotel to see who walks off with trophies in 32 different categories.

Our host for the evening will be Huw Edwards, anchor of the BBC Ten O’Clock News. Edwards has been the extremely popular chairman of the Fleet News Industry Conference for the past two years.

Laughs on the evening will be provided by one of the most original and distinctive new stars on television, Jimmy Carr.

Carr hosts the primetime TV shows Distraction and The Friday Night Project but it is in stand-up comedy that his genius for sharp one-liners really shines through.

Music will be provided by the Legends of Rock show, with some of the finest tribute acts in Britain –including pop princess Kylie and ageing rocker Rod – strutting their stuff on stage.
