SUZUKI’S new five-door Swift supermini goes on sale from tomorrow (Friday), offering high equipment levels and sub-£8,000 pricing.

The entry-level 1.3 GL is priced at £7,799 on-the-road and comes with front, side and curtain airbags, CD player, electric windows and mirrors and steering wheel-mounted stereo controls. The £8,999 1.5 GLX adds keyless entry and ignition, air conditioning and alloy wheels.

The 1.3-litre engine produces 91bhp, returns 45.6mpg on the combined cycle and emits 152g/km of CO2. The 1.5-litre version has 100bhp, achieves 43.5mpg combined and has CO2 emissions of 159g/km. A four-speed automatic version of the 1.5 is also available, priced at £9,824.

The Swift range will be expanded in June with a 1.3 three-door version and in September a 1.3 diesel arrives, followed next year by a folding metal roof convertible and a 1.6-litre GTi version.
