    Peugeot 206 CC HDi

EVERYONE from Audi to Vauxhall is offering diesel convertibles these days, and Peugeot is the latest to join the fray with its HDi-engined version of its popular folding hardtop 206 CC. The Euro IV-compliant 1.6-litre engine has 110bhp and is priced from £14,695. If drivers want wind-in-the-hair fun, but with the added security of a coupe, the 206 fits both bills. Obviously, fuel economy and emissions are better with the diesel.

    Volvo S60/V70 D5

DON’T confuse this D5 with the old version, as Volvo has seriously upped the power. It now boasts 185bhp – up 22bhp – but fuel economy and emissions remain unchanged. For long distance work, few can match the big Volvos for comfort, and with average fuel economy of 42.8mpg (V70: 41.5mpg) there won’t be too many visits to the black pump. Both engines are also Euro IV-compliant, which is good news tax-wise.
