PLANS are underway to cope with an expected surge in van and truck rentals during the London Olympics in 2012.

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) is expecting an ‘unprecedented demand’ as swathes of the capital becomes a building site in preparation for the games.

A spokesman for the BVRLA said: ‘Not only London will benefit. The sheer scale of the undertaking will be such that suppliers from across the UK will benefit and they too will need additional transport facilities. Many suppliers will need these facilities only on a short term basis and buying additional vehicles to meet this need would, for the majority, prove to be very uneconomical. Spot rental would be the natural alternative.’
