A NEW booklet that unravels the complex mysteries of towing has been launched by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

‘Towing and the Law’ gives a summary of the legislation that governs light trailers.

The 40-page booklet includes an extensive range of subjects, from towbars, coupling types and the correct use of breakaway cables, via driving licence requirements, to when tachographs are needed.

Christopher Macgowan, chief executive of the SMMT said: ‘The last edition of ‘Towing and the Law’ sold nearly 140,000 copies, proving the need for a guide. We expect the new guide to be as popular.’

The contents are relevant to any commercial or industrial user of light trailers (up to 3,500 kg), as well anyone using trailers for leisure purposes.

The guide costs £5 including post and packaging (UK only) and can be ordered online at www.smmt.co.uk/publications. Alternatively, orders, complete with payment, can also be sent to Publications Department, SMMT Ltd, Forbes House, Halkin Street, London SW1X 7DS.
