RANGE Rover’s new diesel engine finally offers the sort of refinement found with the wonderful 420 CDI engine in Mercedes-Benz’s massive new G-class.

But despite the new engine, the Range Rover struggles to match the residual values of the GL. The GL’s newness, size and seven-seat capability means it is predicted to lose £2,500 less than the Range Rover. And even though in percentage terms 40% and above is pretty healthy for both, cash-lost figures around the £35,000 mark are hefty.
