Volkswagen unveils new crossover concept

VOLKSWAGEN has revealed pictures of its latest design study, the Concept A, a crossover between a sports car and a compact SUV.

The Concept A has a hatchback tailgate which is joined with a pick-up style fold-down rear section beneath the rear LED light clusters. This hatch can be opened independently and remain open while driving so long loads can be carried.

The new concept doesn’t have a B-pillar and features opposing opening wing doors. It also has a concertina-style soft-top roof which folds back to the C-pillar. Volkswagen said a TDI engine could also be developed for the concept in the future.

The Concept A will be on the Volkswagen stand at the Geneva Motor Show this month.

Production plans for the vehicle have not been confirmed.
