It is the first time a car has won the accolade two years running in the top 10 best selling models produced by Lex Vehicle Leasing. It found the five-door Golf 140bhp TDI was the most popular model out of 46,000 vehicles Lex supplied to its customers last year.
The company found that diesel growth on its fleet had slowed, but still grew from 62% of all purchases to 64% in 2005.
A Lex spokesman said: ‘Drivers are constantly re-evaluating the make and model of car they drive based on its tax and mpg performance, which is why it’s interesting to see the same car take top position for the second year running.’
‘The appearance of the Saab 9-3 and Audi A4 for the first time also reinforces the fact that companies are making their car choice lists more flexible, which spell good news for all drivers.’
