GERMANY’S motoring industry has reacted with dismay to plans to introduce tax increases on biofuels in the country.

Although applauding the German Government’s commitment to promoting the use of biofuels the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) has criticised plans to make it more expensive for motorists.

VDA president Professor Bernd Gottschalk said: ‘The burdens on motorists in the form of taxes and other charges are already over the limit. The planned full taxation of blended biofuels will make mobility even more expensive.’

Praising the government for promoting the use of biofuels, Gottschalk added: ‘But this must not lead to motorists having to dig into their pockets again.’
