Q: I’ve been running a small fleet as part of my job. What training is there to prepare me for a full time fleet role?

A: The Institute of Car Fleet
Management offers several courses, including a diploma in fleet management (www.icfmonline.co.uk). Other places to look include The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (www.rospa.com), the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (www.bvrla.co.uk), road safety charity Brake (www.brake.org.uk) or for more generic courses try www.learndirect.co.uk.

Q: I applied for a job six weeks ago and haven’t heard back. How long should I leave it before calling?

A: This is tricky. You don’t want to pester but you need to know where you stand. Six weeks is a long time to keep an applicant waiting so I’d give the HR department a call this week. Prepare for bad news but at least you’ll be able to move on and apply for other positions. See facing page for the latest opportunities in the fleet industry.
