LAND Rover has released the first details - and pictures - of the Freelander 2.

Highlights include:

  • Fresh and dynamic exterior design – chiselled, geometric and simple
  • Two new engines: 3.2-litre i6 petrol (233 PS / 171 kW) – 30 per cent more powerful than the outgoing V6 with 10 per cent improvement in fuel economy; 2.2-litre TD4 diesel (160 PS / 118 kW) – better fuel economy than its predecessor (37.7mpg) and 43 per cent more power
  • Full-time intelligent 4x4 that helps optimise traction and fuel economy
  • Land Rover’s Terrain Response system
  • Designed and engineered by Land Rover at Gaydon, near Warwick, the Freelander 2 is built at the Halewood plant in Liverpool.

    The petrol will only be offered with a six-speed automatic gearbox with sequential-shift and sports modes and the diesel will be available with a six-speed manual at launch. The auto will be available from early 2007.
