PLUMBING and building merchants group Wolseley UK has won two categories in the Fleet Safety Forum Awards For Excellence 2006.

Paul Gallemore, Wolseley’s head of health, safety and the environment, collected the Road Risk Manager of the Year award for large fleets and the award for crash analysis procedures at a gala black tie dinner in Stratford-upon-Avon last week.

Clearly delighted with the awards, Gallemore told Fleet NewsNet: ‘It’s great to get some recognition for the work we have put in. I’m over the moon.’

Collision rates present a huge challenge for the 5,000-vehicle Wolseley fleet serving the group’s 1,850 locations. Although the fleet is growing, Gallemore is now seeing month-on-month reductions in the collision rates per vehicle.

Key to the improvements over the last 18 months was the creation of a fleet safety steering group, which brought together operational managers and insurance experts to create an action plan.

The Fleet Safety Forum Awards are organised by the road safety charity Brake, www.brake.org.uk.
