DENNIS Dugan, group car fleet manager, WSP Consulting Engineers

How many vehicles are you responsible for?
We have 630 cars including eight vans, plus 315 cash-for-car takers.

What is your fleet history?
I have been the group fleet manager with WSP for seven years. Previously, I worked with KPMG for 10 years and looked after its 220-strong car fleet in the north west. I also undertook various projects reviewing clients’ car fleet operations.

What’s your greatest achievement to date?
Rolling a maximum 300 game in tenpin bowling – the first time it had been done at my local bowling centre, although more recently, my now-fiancée saying ‘yes’ is the high point in my life.

Can you give advice to someone joining the industry?
Join ACFO and attend your regional meetings regularly.

How is the industry changing?
Recently, fleet managers have needed to concentrate on the health and safety and duty of care issues. In the near future, the environmental impacts and the government’s tax and legislative response to this will become an ever more central feature of our role.
