KEVIN Edwards, group procurement manager, the Danwood Group

How many vehicles do you look after?

I manage around 500 vehicles including cars, light commercial vehicles and HGVs.

How did you get into the business?

It came with the territory – procurement. As group procurement manager for indirect spend, I purchase all goods not for resale.

What advice can you give to someone joining the industry?

You have two ears and one mouth and you should use them in that ratio.

Which is more important – what you know or who you know?

It’s probably a bit of both. As Michael Corleone said in The Godfather: ‘Keep your friends close but your enemies closer’.

What has been your greatest success to date?

Getting my MBA. It has enabled me to look at problems in a more strategic way and to view business as a whole.

What is your favourite restaurant?

Darleys in Derby. It is set in an old mill overlooking the River Erewash and the food is absolutely delightful.
