A new management team has been establised at National Car Rental to "drive growth" following its acquisition by Europcar earlier this year.

John Leigh, formerly head of the National UK business has been appointed managing director of the combined organisation. Marie Barry, who previously headed Europcar in the UK, has taken up the role of deputy managing director, working alongside Mr Leigh.

“The Europcar and National brands help thousands of UK motorists every day, whether travelling for business or leisure," said Mr Leigh. “And Marie and I have considerable hands-on experience, as well as a driving enthusiasm, to continue to raise the standards for our customers. We believe we can achieve this because both organisations have enormous synergies in terms of their heritage, their strong service ethic and the quality and commitment of their people.

“From a career start of working with a 1,000 car rental fleet, I now have responsibility for a UK fleet of almost 50,000 vehicles and a combined UK network of over 270 locations. It’s a great foundation to drive innovation for the industry as a whole.”

Owned by the French investment company Eurazeo, Europcar's network comprises over 5,300 rental outlets in 160 countries. It has a fleet of more than 241,000 vehicles and almost 10 million rental contracts were signed in 2006.
