There has been a significant reduction in the number of business renters caught speeding, according to figures from National Car Rental.

The company’s findings suggest the government’s anti-speeding measures are having an impact after they revealed a 29% drop in the number of speeding fines it received in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period last year.

However, rental cars are still to be found in large numbers illegally using bus lanes (up 37%) and parking illegally (up 8.4%).

After the extension of the London congestion charging zone in February, National, which operates the largest car rental fleet in the UK, has seen a rise in congestion charge fines, which rose by 32% in the second quarter of this year compared to the same period in 2006.
