KEY questions answered by the experts.

Q: I LOOK after my company’s car fleet of 28 vehicles and I am constantly reading about new legislation regarding health and safety, duty of care and corporate manslaughter.

I do not feel that I have the correct knowledge or training on fleet management and have been trying to find a course to go on without much success. Can you help?

A:THE Institute of Car Fleet Management offers several courses, including a diploma in fleet management (www.icfmonline.co.uk).

The certificate covers administration, finance, law, vehicle/support service acquisition and people management.

It also incorporates assignment tasks designed to encourage participants to link their learning directly to their own role and make changes in policy and/or processes.

Other places to look include the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (www.rospa.com) which offers a variety of courses, including some on occupational risk management.

The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (www.bvrla.co.uk) offers courses in conjunction with Nottingham Business School alongside a City & Guilds qualification.

Road safety charity Brake (www.brake.org.uk) is an option for courses on safety including the FedEx and Brake Road Safety Academy which is a free one day course for fleet managers.

For more generic courses you could try www.learndirect.co.uk or www.hotcourses.com.
