BENEFIT-IN-KIND taxation for vans is changing dramatically as from April, so it will become even more important for drivers to be able to prove whether or not they were driving LCVs on company business.

The maximum tax payable on the use of a company van will increase from £200 to £1,200 pa, and the employer’s Class1A NIC payable will increase from £64 to £384 a year, so it is important to get it right or drivers could suffer financially.

Now TomTom WORK is offering drivers and businesses a solution for recording the relevant data in a standard format. It is a new product that offers integrated navigation, tracking, tracing and communication.

TomTom WORK offers businesses a connected navigation solution that combines plug in and play tracking and tracing technology, with smart navigation and communication tools It allows the driver to choose between private and business mode by selecting the appropriate icon on the TomTom GO unit.

The data generated for the trips will then be compiled into a report within TomTom Webfleet that shows the number of business and private trips as well as the business and private mileage within a given time frame.

The added advantage for the driver is that, in private mode, only the mileage and not the position of the vehicle is being recorded.

Having selected the privacy mode, the driver will see the privacy icon appear on the display of the TomTom GO unit (an eye with a red cross through it).

When drivers see this, they can be assured that their position is not being recorded in TomTom Webfleet and that they are not being tracked.
