THE new Opel/Vauxhall Corsa was the most popular new car sold throughout Europe during January.

It sold 39,393 units and was closely followed by the Fiat Grande Punto in second place and Renault Clio in third.

Other models in the top 10 include Ford Focus, Ford Fiesta, Volkswagen Golf and Peugeot 207. The study said: ‘The majority of core European markets have experienced growth in January 2007 compared to this time last year, with the Norwegian market up a staggering 70%. One significant exception is Germany, which recorded a 10.5% drop in volume following a revised taxation structure that was introduced at the beginning of the year.’

Volkswagen was the best-selling manufacturer during the month, followed by Opel/Vauxhall.
