Parking costs up

UK parking charges have risen by as much as 1,000% in six years.

The average cost of leaving a car for two hours has increased from 86p in 2000 to £1.21 in 2006, a rise of 40%.

The biggest increase was in Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, where prices have shot up from 10p to £1.08, according to Direct Line.
