THE BMW 7 Series caused a stir on its launch in 2001 with its ‘flame surfaced’ styling, but the new model promises to be less controversial.

Under this prototype’s cladding is a sleeker, sportier look that will be revealed later next year.

As well as a new look, the 7 Series will adopt direct-injection technology for the petrol engines, while the diesels will boast added power and increased anti-pollution devices.

There may also be a petrol/electric hybrid using technology gained through BMW’s collaboration with General Motors and DaimlerChrysler.
