Companies with no links to a trade union are to be targeted by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in a bid to convince employers that union involvement could be beneficial to business.

The TUC is planning to deliver copies of a new leaflet 'An employers’ introduction to trade unions' to 2,000 small and medium-sized companies in the UK over the next few weeks.

Brendan Barber, general secretary at the TUC, said: “The leaflet explains what trade unions are all about and says that not only can union reps help make businesses safer, they can also improve lines of communication with the workforce and take a lead on training issues.”

More than 2,500 British companies work with unions and the TUC hopes this latest drive will prove that unions are there to help, rather than hinder, business.
