Martin Sollis team leader (cleansing)/fleet manager East Lindsey District Council

  • Describe your fleet.
I am currently responsible for more than 75 vehicles. This includes mechanical sweepers, caged tippers, small vans and tractors. The majority are supplied on contract hire with maintenance although we do own some of the vehicles.

  • What is your career history?
I have worked in the waste industry for more than 10 years and this is my first major fleet management role. I have previously been responsible for small fleets but nothing to the scale of this fleet, which is growing every week.

  • What is the funniest thing you’ve seen at work?
Someone called to ask if he could come to the recycling site to try and find a winning lottery ticket that he had put into his recycling box, which had been collected the day before. He came to the site and searched for three hours – there was over 20 tonnes of newspapers to sort through. He never found it, and nor did we, because we had a good look after he had left.

  • What would be your dream job?
I love playing and watching sport so it would probably be a professional footballer or cricketer.
