The number of valuables stolen from company cars is on the increase.

Research carried out by RAC Auto Windscreens has found that despite a car theft taking place every 22 seconds, more than 40% of motorists regularly leave valuables on show when their cars are unattended.

The company’s own figures show a 23% rise in the number of smashed side windows in 2006 compared to 2005.

A poll of 1,000 drivers found that a further quarter of motorists leave gadgets on show and unattended for more than 10 minutes at a time.

A spokesman said: “Today’s fleet cars are packed with the latest technology and gadgets, making them a target for theft.”
