Volkswagen is re-entering the coupe market next year with its new Scirocco and we’ve caught the car hot-weather testing in California.

Although well disguised, the test mule bears a striking resemblance to the Iroc concept car (inset) unveiled at last year’s Paris motor show.

The Scirocco goes on sale next summer. Expect UK prices to start at around £18,500 for the 1.4 TSI Twincharger with 140bhp.

A 170bhp TSI unit will also be offered, alongside the Golf GTI’s 200bhp turbo unit.

A diesel with 170bhp will be offered to boost the car’s appeal for user-choosers.
