Vehicle movement exchange business VMEX has opened a new centre to serve Eastern Europe and the Baltic States.

The firm, which matches vehicle movements to spare capacity on transporters, now has its fourth centre in Vilnius, Lithuania. It is targeting 400 companies in the area with around 3,000 vehicle transporters.

The focus of work is expected to be on routes servicing Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia, as well as Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and Finland. VMEX now serves more than 50 companies and expects to grow rapidly as the Eastern European market opens up.

Gražina Jakštiene, operations manager of VMEX Eastern Europe, said: Lithuania is a “gateway” to Eastern Europe and an ideal location to support routes in to this fast growing region.”
