Wayne Millward, van unit operations manager, Lombard Vehicle Management

  • How different is your new role to your previous one at the AA?

It’s a bit gamekeeper-turned-poacher as I’d previously been on the customer side in an internal supplier role.

  • What challenges have you faced?

A few – going back to old employers as a supplier initially took some getting used to, but the main one has been developing the strategy for the van unit.

  • What are you working on at the moment?

I’ve just launched a number of trade-specific vans which come racked, liveried and ready for the road.

  • You’ve been in the fleet industry for years, what keeps you here?

I think it’s the day-to-day challenges that give me a bit of fire in the belly. No two days are ever the same.

  • Did you always envisage a career in fleet?

No, far from it – I almost took an apprenticeship as a horticulturist at Buckingham Palace.

  • What’s your priority over the coming year?

To change the way we support the sales force through the implementation of our strategy for the team.
