Sylvia Jackson, fleet administrator, Speedier Scaffolding

  • How many vehicles are you responsible for?

I control a fleet of 97 vehicles – 27 cars and 70 light and heavy commercial vehicles.

  • How’s the fleet funded?

The company has always used contract hire.

  • What is your top priority at the moment?

To improve the management of the fleet by upgrading the tracker and fuel bunker systems used by the company at its depots.

  • If you were transport minister what policy would you introduce?

A system designed to increase investment in railways. It would be promoted as a cost-effective form of transport for goods and passengers, in order to remove traffic from the roads. This would reduce congestion and the carbon footprint of transport.

  • What’s the first constructive thing you do when you arrive at work?

The first thing I do in the morning is to check system control procedures and my emails to ensure there have been no problems overnight.

  • What are you reading?

I have just received the Construction & Plant newsletter.
