Transport minister Rosie Winterton will provide the fleet industry with a keynote briefing on government policy at the FN50 Conference on November 6.

The FN50 Conference, sponsored by National Car Rental and Kwik-Fit Fleet, is the annual conference for companies which supply fleet operators, such as leasing companies, manufacturers, fast-fits and rental firms.

Ms Winterton is a key member of the all-new ministerial team that was brought in to head up the Department for Transport following the reshuffle announced by new Prime Minister Gordon Brown earlier this year.

The team will be responsible for implementing plans to tackle the key transport issues the government faces and its work will include decisions on proposed initiatives that will have a significant effect on the future of business transport, including the potential national roll- out of road tolling schemes.

The minister joins a top-level line-up for the conference, which includes one of the most influential figures in fleet – Paul Willis, director of Volkswagen UK.

Also taking the stand to provide a detailed analysis of the potential effect of transport policy on fleet operators will be John Mason, head of enforcement operations in congestion charging at Transport for London.

Other headline speakers will include Chris Cooper, managing director of international consultancy Challenge Consulting, who will examine key techniques for improving customer service; and Peter Soliman, chief executive officer of Fleet Logistics, who will offer an international overview of the fleet market.

Tim Hudson, commercial director of LeasePlan, will give an in-depth guide to the business opportunities in green fleet management. He will also be part of one of the key sessions of the day, The Big Debate – Battle for the Green Pound, an interactive debate which will examine how businesses can develop their green offering.

Among the panellists will be Jon Webb, director of Lex Momentum Consultancy Services.

In the afternoon, there will be a session providing a fleet manager’s view of customer service, with a panel of experts including Susan McDonald, head of strategic sourcing for Virgin Media, and a number of other senior fleet decision-makers.
