EC rejects making car industry loan

The European Commission has rejected calls for a US-style loan to the car industry to help offset the cost of developing environmental technologies.

ACEA, the European carmakers’ association had asked for a €40 billion loan.

A European Commission source said the idea did not merit discussion.
