New technology can be a challenge and a minefield, according to City Sprint’s fleet director Am Pall.

The courier operates a fleet of 1,500 vehicles and recently undertook an environmental programme to assess its impact on the environment and what new technology was available.

As a result, the company has increased its fleet of environmentally friendly vehicles by 15% by investing in a range of vehicles, including: pushbikes; trikes; electric vehicles; and alternative fuel vehicles.

“It’s a huge investment for a company of our size,” said Mr Pall.

“But it’s giving our clients choice and advice, which has given us a competitive edge.”

Its investment, along with driver training and embracing new technology, has resulted in City Sprint cutting its CO2 emissions by 1,075 tonnes – equivalent to an overall saving of 11%.
