Communication technology launch

Communication between fleet managers and their drivers should get easier with the launch of a new in-vehicle fixed data terminal (FDT) from by Minorplanet Systems.

The FDT allows two-way communication with drivers via email, internet/intranet access, sat/nav and telephone.

Delivery requirements can be scheduled and dispatched to the FDT, while drivers can also use the system to provide real-time updates back to the office.

The FDT comprises a mini computer loaded with a choice of software options which can be managed from the control room.

As visible hardware in vehicles is prone to theft, the mini computer is fitted out of view behind the dashboard, leaving only a touch sensitive screen visible, which can be removed.
